The AKC’s Canine Good Citizen Program recognizes dogs who have good manners at home and in the community. The Canine Good Citizen Test (CGC) and the Advanced CGC (CGCA) tests will be offered. At the CGC test, you’ll be asked to sign the Responsible Dog Owner’s Pledge and then be tested on 10 elements. At the end of the test, the evaluator will provide you with the paperwork to send to AKC to request the CGC/CGCA certificate.

There is no age limit for entry. The dog should be on a flat, buckle or choke/chain collar with a leash that has a clasp (no pinch, prong, electric, head halter, harnesses, slip leads), and the owner should provide a grooming tool (comb or brush) for one of the exercises.

Springers with a CGC who would like to try for the next level, Canine Good Citizen Advance (CGCA), may do so but entries will be limited to 10 dogs and Preregistration is required.

TRICK DOG TITLES: Testing for the Novice and Intermediate levels of Trick Dog will be offered at the National. If your dog has passed the CGC they need only perform 5 tricks, with or without food reward, to earn the title. A Novice title can be earned without the CGC by performing 10 tricks. The Intermediate title requires 10 additional tricks in the absence of food rewards. To receive the Tricks Title from AKC, you will need to submit the application available on the AKC website, along with a $25 processing fee, to AKC. This is a separate fee from the fee charged at the National for the evaluation.
